The GOLO diet combines calorie restriction (~1,300–1,800 kcal/day) with the proprietary Release supplement containing berberine, chromium, zinc, and plant extracts. Published studies supporting GOLO are industry-funded and small (n=20–35). The insulin resistance theory is plausible but not novel; the independent contribution of Release beyond calorie restriction is undemonstrated in independent RCTs. This article evaluates the evidence.
